Roles and Challenges of Probabilistic Approaches for iSMR Safety

Short Bio
Dr. Kim completed Ph.D. degrees in nuclear engineering at KAIST in 1993. Dr Kim worked to develop APR1400 and APR+ in Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co, (KHNP) since 1997.  From 2015, he was the project manager for APR1400 USNRC design certification and EUR certification. From 2020, he was the president of Central Research Institute (CRI) of KHNP and he planned the innovative SMR development with the Korean government. Now, he is the president of iSMR development agency.

Short Bio
Seung Jun Lee is a Professor of Nuclear Engineering Department at UNIST, South Korea. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Nuclear and Quantum Engineering from KAIST. Prior to joining UNIST, he worked as a Senior Researcher at the KAERI. His research interests include PSA, digital I&C systems, human reliability analysis, and advanced reactor safety. He has contributed extensively to emerging PSA methodologies, including dynamic PSA, multi-unit PSA, and safety assessment of advanced nuclear systems.

RIDM Practices for Enhancing Nuclear Safety at Japanese Utilities

Short Bio
Mr. Kataoka is currently on loan from Kansai Electric Power, bringing 32 years of professional service to the Japanese nuclear industry. Recent leadership roles include serving as Deputy Director of the Local Relations and General Manager of the Nuclear Fuel Cycle. Expertise encompasses radiological protection, waste management, nuclear policy, and plant operation. Mr. Kataoka holds a degree from the Department of Industrial Chemistry, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University.
